A child spends twelve weeks getting from “won't put their face in” to “10 metres of front crawl”. On a pass/fail system, weeks one to eleven look identical: not achieved. Then one tick. That's a terrible story to tell a parent who's paying monthly.
The five stages
- Not yet - introduced, not attempted.
- Tried - had a go, with support.
- Developing - getting there, inconsistently.
- Secure - reliable, most of the time.
- Mastered - done, certified, next.
Teachers tap a dot poolside; parents see movement the same evening. The week a nervous swimmer goes from Tried to Developing is a week worth paying for - now it looks like one.
Retention isn't a marketing problem. It's a visibility problem.
And when the final skill in a stage hits Mastered, the certificate generates itself. No laminator, no Sunday evening admin, no parent finding out three weeks later.
Enjoyed it? Pass it on.
